Plus One Learning

Education that responds to each learner

Every student deserves support that reflects their individual strengths, needs and current understanding.

Schools, however, are organised to teach and support large groups. Teachers lead full classes, specialists work with many learners, and the information needed to understand each learner is often spread across IEPs, assessments, reports and notes.

That makes it difficult to maintain a clear, current picture of every learner: what they understand, what they can do, the goals they are working towards and the support they have received.

Without that picture, educators cannot reliably identify each learner's next meaningful step or adjust support as their understanding changes.

That next meaningful step towards a goal is the learner's plus one. Educators need one too: a system that brings the evidence together and uses AI to help them understand where each learner is now and plan what comes next using appropriate instructional methods.

Starting with students who have IEPs

An Individualized Education Program, or IEP, sets out a student's learning goals and the support they should receive.

IEP support is where Plus One begins.

Our first application helps specialists plan and lead sessions around a learner's IEP goals. It uses selected instructional methods to provide clear, practical guidance, helping specialists apply each method as intended while responding to the learner in front of them.

During and after each session, Plus One helps the specialist capture observations and assessment evidence, then review what should become part of the learner's record.

By keeping planning, session guidance, assessment and notes in one flow, the application is designed to reduce time spent moving between documents and writing up sessions, leaving more time and attention for students.

Making assessment useful

Assessment becomes useful when it informs what happens next.

Plus One helps specialists capture and review evidence of what a learner understood or was able to do, together with the support they received. Over time, the evidence they approve builds a Living Competency Graph: a structured, evolving record of what the learner has demonstrated, the evidence and support behind each judgement, and the goals they are working towards.

The graph helps specialists understand progress, decide what to assess next and plan the learner's next meaningful step. Educators decide what is added and what the evidence means.

While our first application supports specialist sessions, Plus One's next product will bring this understanding into everyday classroom planning and teaching: an AI teacher assistant.

Drawing on the Living Competency Graph, the teacher assistant will help classroom teachers plan for individual needs, adapt lessons as learners' understanding changes and assess learning as it happens. It will also help teachers capture and review evidence from classroom learning.

Once approved by an educator, that evidence can update the graph. What happens in the classroom can then inform both future teaching and specialist support.

Later, Plus One intends to develop educator-development agents that help educators strengthen their practice and personalised tutoring connected to each student's goals and demonstrated progress.

Together, these products are intended to help education evolve into a more personalised system—one that supports each learner's academic, social and emotional growth and gives them greater ownership of their learning. Plus One also aims to reduce educators' workload and day-to-day pressure, creating more room for them to be present with students and build the deeper relationships that help learners thrive.
